We have already looked at the top free agent power forwards and centers, which are the two positions with most talent and depth, now we move on to the small forwards. This position is pretty anemic with no one that will be a game changer. All five players are over the age of 30 and there is only 2-3 that could possibly start for a team. After that there are two that will be good role players.
So with that enticing intro lets take a look at who is available.
1. Tayshaun Prince 6’9” 215 lbs. 9 years pro, 31 years old (unrestricted)
Still a quality player in the league, but he benefits greatly from being one of the very few decent , SF in this class. He’s still an above average defender and has shot the ball pretty well. Last year was complete chaos for the whole Pistons franchise, and many of the rumors involved Prince and distaste for his coach.

2. Andrei Kirilenko 6’9” 235 lbs. 10 years pro, 30 years old (unrestricted)
Kirilenko just can’t stay healthy, he hasn’t played a complete season since his rookie year. When healthy he is one of the better defenders and shot blockers at his position. His inability to stay healthy coupled with his emotional “I wanna go back to Russia” moment has put a damper on his career. Someone will bring him in and give him a shot but I doubt that it’s Utah.

3. Caron Butler 6’7” 228 lbs. 9 years pro, 31 years old (unrestricted)
Butler started off the season playing very well, having career year in 3pt % , but a patella injury, on New Year ’s Day, cut his season short. I don’t see the Mavs offering him much (after all they did just win the title without him) so if he’s looking for money it’s not likely coming from the Mavs.

4. Shane Battier 6’8” 220 10 years pro, 32 years old (unrestricted)
Batttier has had a very solid career, mostly known for his tenacious, in your face (literally) D. He also provides good 3pt ability and is a true pro. He’s a guy that just about any team would want on their roster. He has lost a step but I feel he can provide good energy and defense off the bench.

5. Grant Hill 6’8” 225 lbs. 16 years pro, 38 years old (unrestricted)
If you would have asked me five years ago if I would consider signing Grant Hill this offseason I would have laughed at you. That goes to show what some hard work and determination can do, because Hill has salvaged his, what was once thought lost, career. He is still able to provide good things for a team even though he is 38 years old.
